I tried tatting a few years back when covid first started and I loved it, but had to stop due to work and school. Now that I'm done with school and have a stable job I can do hobbies again, and decided to go back into tatting. Absolutely love the tutorials and patterns.

This was my current wip but I had to stop due to the thread pulling on accident. Can't wait to try it some old tatting patterns now that I know how to mostly read a pattern

Hi! That looks so pretty!

An introduction

Hello everyone! I'm pretty new to tatting, I started a few years ago after seeing sparrow on tiktok I think, but got ill and lost my shuttle so never progressed passed basics. I've recently started again and am super excited to learn and hopefully start bein able to do patterns!

This is silly but it made me laugh. My hand just naturally finds itself in this position as I work. I thought 🤔 🧐 this looks like a llama! I shall call it the Llama hold now 😂

(Continental Knitter and crocheter so pointer finger tensioning seems to work best for me).

I love this though! Finding a comfortable position is so key to keeping your hands in good condition, and this is such a great example of why I always try to emphasize that there is no "wrong" way to hold things.

Hi!

Hi, I am new here 🙂

I learned needle tatting a few months ago. Although I like it, I really wanted to learn shuttle tatting. It feels more fun for my hands and brain. My work isn't as tidy as it was on needles but I know that will come with practice.

Here are my first two practice pieces. I'm not done with attempt 2 yet but I can tell I am getting a better feel for it so I'm moving in the right direction. On the first piece I had some strange extra bit on one of my ring joins, oops 😬.

I love chokers so that is what drew me to this craft. I also have a stash of crochet cotton so I was thinking this would be a good way to use it up. But, after using a Lisbeth size 20 thread on a needle tatted piece…

I don't think I'll be looking back either. Especially after watching the video on the course for the advanced things. I love that it's possible to tatt without flipping my work.

Getting the hang of it I think.

I have made it to the end of lesson 4 - Picots and joins. This is my practice piece. I don’t think it came out to bad. My problem is I’m not sure if I am pulling hard enough to close the rings or to curve the chains, or I’m pulling to hard. I know I am using the wrong cotton thread. I started learning tatting about a week and a half ago by watching some yt videos and did not realize that crochet thread is different than tatting thread so I have been learning how to do this with the wrong thread. I have ordered some Lizbeth thread size 10 and will practice all of the lessons again with that when it gets here.

Bookmark Patterns

Looking for simple but cute bookmark patterns. I was trying the Priscilla pattern from Tatting by the Bay, but I was really getting turned around and confused. Hoping to find something a little easier or with an easy, labeled diagram.

Without potentially being labeled a traitor (Lol) Handy Hands has some free patterns separated by experience level. Here’s the link: https://hhtatting.com/free-patterns/free-tatting-patterns/

Live teacher in NC

Are there any members in NC? My mom is wanting to learn and is having trouble following the videos so far. Hopefully Sparrow's video will be easier to follow when we get it, but she's impatient ☺️.
