Howdy, I'm new around here

Hello there, I recently joined the beginner course to learn shuttle tatting. I learned to needle tat some in high school, and have picked it up again and worked on a few projects over the last year. I have really struggled with shuttles, but I like learning new techniques and want to make finer gauge designs. So far I have really enjoyed the class but I have quite a way to go to be proficient. I am very interested in needle crafts, fashion history, and lace making in general. I hope to make jewelry primarily and learn to work with beads as well. I thought I'd share a couple of my needle tatted projects for now.

I also made a tiny human recently, and decorated a onesie for her first Valentine's Day. Portable, calming crafts have helped me survive and rest throughout my pregnancy and these newborn days.

The second…

Beautiful work! Welcome to the group!

Playing with Bauble and Jaques

I think they go very well together but i'm not quite satisfied with the chains

Love this idea! The chain placement is actually very nice; I think the only thing I would change is cutting that top chain above bauble into two sections and attaching them to the point of the bauble motif. That would give it some more stability.

My first finished piece

Hi everyone,

I only heard about tatting 2 weeks ago. Strange, because it is so beautiful and sturdy. I spent my life crocheting and when I had kids and was a single parent I had no time. Now I have grandkids and I was thinking of picking it back up. Went to YouTube and saw this tatting and was curious. I make jewelry as a hobby love to make earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. I saw some tatted earrings and that was all she wrote, I wanted to know what this tatting was. Watched many, many videos and I confused myself because there were tutorials, then there were folks going for the film shots. I learned real fast to tell the difference. I was confused as to how to proceed. I needed a class, someone to show me one way. I found Sparrows videos and she mentioned her classes. …

Aw, thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad my lessons were able to help you get the hang of it!

Hi!

Hi, I am new here 🙂

I learned needle tatting a few months ago. Although I like it, I really wanted to learn shuttle tatting. It feels more fun for my hands and brain. My work isn't as tidy as it was on needles but I know that will come with practice.

Here are my first two practice pieces. I'm not done with attempt 2 yet but I can tell I am getting a better feel for it so I'm moving in the right direction. On the first piece I had some strange extra bit on one of my ring joins, oops 😬.

I love chokers so that is what drew me to this craft. I also have a stash of crochet cotton so I was thinking this would be a good way to use it up. But, after using a Lisbeth size 20 thread on a needle tatted piece…

I don't think I'll be looking back either. Especially after watching the video on the course for the advanced things. I love that it's possible to tatt without flipping my work.

I finished Beginner's Shuttle Tatting! 🚀

Not sure why it won’t lay flat

Looks great!

Getting the hang of it I think.

I have made it to the end of lesson 4 - Picots and joins. This is my practice piece. I don’t think it came out to bad. My problem is I’m not sure if I am pulling hard enough to close the rings or to curve the chains, or I’m pulling to hard. I know I am using the wrong cotton thread. I started learning tatting about a week and a half ago by watching some yt videos and did not realize that crochet thread is different than tatting thread so I have been learning how to do this with the wrong thread. I have ordered some Lizbeth thread size 10 and will practice all of the lessons again with that when it gets here.

Great job! Tension is a full-time job in tatting 😁

Èitain

I did it again (shrinked the pattern) ;) the beads are a mix of 15/0 Seed Beads and 2 mm rosequartz with size 30 Thread. I left it plain, without adding more beads yet. But I think I like it this way...

Legacy Pieces

My grandmother sent me some pieces of our family tatting! The first motif was made by my great-great-grandmother in the 1920's or 30's, and the second was made by my grandmother herself. She carried this tote bag around every day for probably around 50 years! Proof of just how durable tatted lace really is!

What wonderful family treasures!

Evergreen

It's more an everblue but I loved doing it after I got the twist of it. The thread is a size 30 with15/0 beads and some bigger ones I had here...

Snowdrop

Just finished making this pattern and absolutely love how wonderfully it turned out. It's going to be a Christmas present for my best friend who wears more fancy outfits than I do and I just can't wait for her to see it.

Looks stunning!!!!!

3rd pdf beginner pattern

Been working on the 3rd one. This has been fun being more detailed and still being so beginner friendly! With something like this does it always naturally curve? and will iron or pinning help with that? I like it curved just curious if that's just how it goes.

Beginner pdf 2nd pattern

Did the 2nd pattern from the beginner pdf. Still very cute but hard to tell that rings are small and large. Maybe I didnt have even enough tension throughout for me to see. But onto the 3rd braclet from the beginner pdf starting now! :)
